YOGA

Hi I'm Kirsty, some of you may know me already from the Castle Green sessions over the past two years, if you don’t know me, I can’t wait to welcome you into the yoga session at Shaftesbury Wellness 2022! My passion is sharing all the benefits that yoga can bring to every body, to give you ways to feel amazing in your body, to find space within the mind to be still and to bring a genuine smile and sense of purpose to the journey you are on. So if you haven't yet experienced one of my yoga sessions, this is what to expect......classes never start like a 'normal' yoga class. We will take time to waken bodies and minds with light-hearted movement and time to have some fun - after all, there is plenty to celebrate being part of a free yoga session in one of the most beautiful places in the country!

Then the journey really begins….I will guide you through ways to switch your body on into its most effective alignment, resulting in any stress or tension on the body dissolving and you stepping into a body that feels stable, strong and empowered. We will work through easy to follow natural movements for the body, explore yoga postures that bring a focus into the mind and awaken the whole of your being into the present moment and there you can simply ‘be’.

To finish, you will experience a short guided relaxation to fully restore your mind and body and feel ready to rejoin the world a happier, calmer version of yourself. See you on the mat!!

QI GONG

Hi – This is Denise and I am excited to be sharing Qigong with you for a second year at Shaftesbury Wellness.

So why Qigong? I was drawn to it because Qigong works with the mind as much as the body. Like many people I was always too busy or too tired to exercise. I faced work related fitness tests that became very stressful, so I took up Qigong following a recommendation. The sessions trained me to relax and to manage my breathing more efficiently - that made all the difference.  I was inspired to train as an instructor with Tai Chi for Better Health and later completed two years of Qigong teacher training. I have been teaching ever since!

The best part about Qigong is that almost anyone can do it – regardless of age or fitness level.   If you are new to exercise then Qigong is a great way to get started – by gently mobilising and strengthening the body.

The focus on breathing, relaxation and mindful movement make it an effective way to calm the mind and reduce stress, so it can be a complement to more strenuous forms of exercise as well. Students are often surprised by how relaxed and energised they feel after a class.

If you have never tried Qi gong why not book a place? The sessions are completely free and you will be very welcome. Hope to see you there!

CIRCUITS

Hi, I am Rachel, having spent most of my career in the food industry

I decided to retrain in 2019 as a PT & Fitness Instructor at Bath University & then as a Nordic Walking Instructor. I've always been passionate about the outdoors & exercise, & the physical and mental benefits of working out.

Over the past 3 years I've worked to build a small business ( For Fitness Sake ) based on helping people get fitter and stronger for life without a gym, using the outdoors where possible.

My ethos is making fitness fun and accessible to all, but always working towards getting stronger for life and learning functional movement.

My outdoor circuits classes usually involves games and fun and moving around a circuit for set work / rest periods, aiming to improve cardio vascular fitness, together with movement targeted at core, balance and strength work, always with different levels being catered for.

Movement is medicine!
